The iPad...why it works, and why it wont...

Isn't it funny how sometimes you have a thought and someone immediately contradicts you? Naturally, the tendency is to place blame for and possible failure on the contrasting theory. Anyway, I wrote on my blog Lionoah that the iPad has a much stronger future as a tool in data transfer. I heard on television the very same day that the iPad is imagined to be an entertainment device. First, let me detail why that is the wrong market for apply to penetrate.

As an entertainment device, there are going to be speakers and docking stations and all manner of stuff for people to buy to make it like something else; perhaps it could serve as a television, or a second monitor, or this or that. Its not a standalone source. Readers wont replace books, and entertainment is HD quality on 42 inches. Computing is done with a laptop.

The way I see it, the iPad is a means for expression. No more tied to a work station, or rather denied access to expressed thought on demand. Powerpoint presentations are static, the animation is minimal. Now imagine you are explaining something and showing it to your audience. The iPhone is too small, a notebook is too bulky, a net book isn't wieldy enough, an iPad is perfect. Or a beamer for large audiences.

Makes sense doesn't it?

Mike Brown is a great defensive coach

Let me say that again. Mike Brown is definitely a good (great might be a stretch) coach and that is without question. The Cavaliers successes with him over the past few years would not have been possible without him. You have to figure that Brown was not given much to work with and he got quite a bit from the Cavaliers team as it is constructed. In fact, I would even say that the guy has enabled Lebron to become a two-time MVP. However, the writing is on the wall. Lebron is frustrated, and Brown does not know anything about offense.

What the Cavaliers need is balance on offense and defense. I am not one to advocate that the man be fired, but then again I am. Hey, I have lost jobs in my life, and at the same time I have walked away when the fit was not the best. The Cavaliers could have beaten the Celtics...absolutely. The problem is that Brown and his specialty, namely defense, failed the Cavs and there was no offense. Rajon Rondo is a good player, and Mo Williams is a liability, but Brown has failed to motivate these guys. Once Lebron leaves Cleveland what, pray tell, will Cleveland do?

Basically it looks as though the Cavaliers are waiting on 'The King' to tell them in which direction he is leaning. With all the length on that team someone should have been able to close out on the shooters of the Celtics and then there was Shaq underneath. As a coach, Brown is a defensive specialist. He had at his disposal Antawn Jamison who is a capable scorer, the rebounding (read: size) advantage, and the best player in the league. He took the team as far as he could take them, however, the Cavaliers have peaked under him, and its time to move on. Make the move before Lebron makes the move for the team.
