The iPad...why it works, and why it wont...

Isn't it funny how sometimes you have a thought and someone immediately contradicts you? Naturally, the tendency is to place blame for and possible failure on the contrasting theory. Anyway, I wrote on my blog Lionoah that the iPad has a much stronger future as a tool in data transfer. I heard on television the very same day that the iPad is imagined to be an entertainment device. First, let me detail why that is the wrong market for apply to penetrate.

As an entertainment device, there are going to be speakers and docking stations and all manner of stuff for people to buy to make it like something else; perhaps it could serve as a television, or a second monitor, or this or that. Its not a standalone source. Readers wont replace books, and entertainment is HD quality on 42 inches. Computing is done with a laptop.

The way I see it, the iPad is a means for expression. No more tied to a work station, or rather denied access to expressed thought on demand. Powerpoint presentations are static, the animation is minimal. Now imagine you are explaining something and showing it to your audience. The iPhone is too small, a notebook is too bulky, a net book isn't wieldy enough, an iPad is perfect. Or a beamer for large audiences.

Makes sense doesn't it?
